“High School Student in Weija Severely Beaten by Peers Amid Accusations of Phone Theft”

A student from Christian Methodist Senior High School in Weija, located in the Ga South Municipal District of Ghana, was violently attacked by fellow students following accusations of stealing a mobile phone. A disturbing video circulating on social media shows a group of male students assaulting the accused and destroying property, while onlookers rush to escape the chaos. The incident took place on Thursday, 27th February 2025, when the accused student was allegedly targeted and forced to flee to a nearby shop for safety. The victim claimed he was only following instructions from an unnamed individual to retrieve the phone in question but was later accused of theft by his peers. Following the attack, some students reportedly vandalized the shop and even injured a community member by stabbing them in the eye with scissors. Local residents expressed shock and outrage at the students’ violent actions, with some questioning whether the perpetrators were genuine students or individuals posing as such. In response to the unrest, a joint military and police team has been deployed to the school after reports emerged that some community members were preparing to retaliate. This incident adds to a growing trend of violent clashes in senior high schools across Ghana. Just days earlier, on Tuesday, 25th February, five students were seriously injured during a peace march that turned violent, sparking a clash between students of Bawku Senior High School and Bawku Technical Institute.
